How do I make my acoustic guitar strings sound brand new?
I have a acoustic guitar and the strings turned black.....before they looked new and sounded good......a few days later it started to sound not good and they turned black.....How to i make my guitar string sound new???? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
Your guitar strings shouldn't turn black. I'd highly recommend switching to a different brand of guitar strings. I like the Ernie Ball coated acoustic strings - they feel awesome and last almost forever 
The easiest way is with WD-40. Take a rag and fold it in half, spray one side. Place the rag under the strings and fold it over (the rag should be folded into fourths with the strings in the middle). Move the rag up and down the lengths of the strings. When the rag turns black, open it up and fold it back over and repeat. Do this until the rag is clean. Your strings might turn black again, if they do, just repeat this.
Ernie ball makes some string wipes that might help you out as well.
-The "black" is probably from oil they used while extruding the steel. This oil soaked into pours of low quality steel, and then start to seep out during the stress of playing.
I've heard of some guitar players boiling their strings to keep them fresh. The only down side to this is that you are likely to break a string the second time you put it on.
