Analog Delay Pedal

How to Get Started with Recording Songs at a Home Studio
It's possible to record and mix professional quality music at home because of the wonderful improvements in "prosumer" audio gear. A recording studio that might have cost tens of thousands of dollars to build fifteen years ago can be built for about three thousand dollars now.
Your first investment if you want to build a home studio should be a good quality computer with lots of hard drive space and RAM. Luckily high quality computers are getting less and less expensive. I purchased a computer with 8GB of memory for only $750.
Once you order a quality computer (and it's certainly possible that the one you already own is plenty good enough to get started) you need DAW program (this is an acronym for "Digital Audio Workstation") that you will be doing all of your recording and mixing with. By the way, if you're a Mac person, I recommend Logic Studio.
What's next on the priority list varies depending on what sort of music you want to record. If you want to make completely electronic music with no recording of vocals or real instruments then there's a good chance you will want to look into software such as Waves Mercury Plugins but most folks (even those doing electronic based music) will want to be able to record vocals and instruments and will need some sort of audio interface.
I should note that many audio interfaces come with a basic DAW program so you can kill two birds with one stone when you buy your audio interface.
An audio interface is how you get sound from a microphone or an instrument into your computer. Yes that's a very "dumbed down" explanation but I think it gets the point across.. Personally I use the EMU 1616M and I highly recommend it for people using a PC who do not need a whole lot of inputs. But there's really a huge selection of audio interfaces available, it's too big of a subject to cover in detail. Pro Tools is the so called "industry standard" when it comes to interfaces but that doesn't mean it's the best choice for you.
Another "must have" for most people is a microphone. A quality mic will allow you to record acoustic instruments, vocals, & amps. It will clearly be a very important part of your home studio. If you can afford it, I would recommend checking out the KSM44 Condenser Mic. I've been using this mic for years and I very highly recommend it.
Another piece of gear that I highly think you should consider is the Art Pro VLA II Tube Compressor because it's a really wonderful deal at a the price you can get it for online.
