Ball Nickel Wound

Is it okay to use different brand strings?

For example, I use Ernie Ball nickel wound 9's. Would it be okay to use, say, D'Addario nickel wound 9's with them (as they are the same gauge)? Example: Ernie Ball E,A,D, but use D'Addario's for the rest.
My main question is: Does brand matter?

Like some posters say, brand is irrelevant although i might add that D'addario on gibson are krap. You can mix 6-5-4 with whatever you find comfortable.
I usede to use 6-5-4 extra light with 3-2-1 banjo strings. It might sound funny but , on my 1953 Gibson, the sound was biting. ON my 1963 Gibson Les paul, Ernie ball roks well.
It's a matter of taste actually.
