It's dependent on a few factors, including the media size used and the configuration of the computer it's plugged into. Waste no time in waiting and jump into the printing task right away as the warm up time is 33 seconds only from sleep mode or 37 seconds from power on.
Because it has a resolution of up to 2400 x 600 dots per inch, graphics end up clear and texts are sharp and readable. This resolution is enough for a home or small office requiring professional-looking documents. You can come up with reports, brochures, presentations and all sorts of printouts with impressive quality.
With the 250-sheet standard media tray and 50-sheet multipurpose tray, deadlines can be met easily. There are a variety of media types compatible including bond paper, plain paper, transparencies, labels and envelopes. Supported media sizes range anywhere from executive, letter, legal, A5, A6, B5 to B6. The multipurpose tray, other than these, can also work with custom ones from as large as 8.5" x 14.0" to as small as 2.75" x 4.57".
There's a memory of 64MB already installed. But a 144-pin S0-DIMM expansion slot is available that allows you to increase the memory size up to 512MB (sold separately). There are a total of 66 scalable fonts, 12 bitmap fonts and 13 bar codes included with the PCL 6 printer language emulation used.
Sharing this laser printer by computers within a network is hassle-free because of the Ethernet 10/100 Base-TX port. Then there's also a USB 2.0 port so that may be easily plugged into a single computer. Further, this port also allows you to plug in a USB flash memory or a digital camera with PictBridge capability. Such features let you print PDF and JPEG files directly, even without turning on a computer.
Starter toners are bundled with a purchase. The black toner is capable of yielding up to 2500 pages at 5 percent coverage. On the other hand, the yellow, cyan and magenta toners can produce as many as 1500 pages at 5 percent coverage. High-capacity toner replacements may be easily obtained from land-based or online sellers of genuine Brother consumables.
The form factor of the Brother HL-4040CN printer with MFC-4040CN toner, has a dimension of 16.5 x 18.7 x 12.5 inches (width x depth x height) and it tips the scale at 64.2 pounds.
