Black Ice
How does black ice form and why is it so slippery?
Black ice is ice that's so clear that you can see asphalt through it, thus 'black ice", and it's practically frictionless. If you step on it you'll be slipping the light fantaslick with no chance of recovery. So, how does it form in the first place and why is it so damned slippery?
You know what it is!!
Black Ice forms when moisture flash freezes on asphalt surfaces. For example..... In Chicago, where I'm from, we have this constantly in the winter months...... moist lake air meets arctic Canadian blast off Lake Michigan = Black Ice.
Why it's so slippery? Not sure that it's more slippery, it's just that when driving the extreme hazzard is that you can't see it!! You'll be cruisin' right along then, WHOOPS!! Of you go spinning out of control and you're "news at 11".
All I can say is be careful in areas of the world with high humidity and freezing air gusts......
