Dreadnaught Guitar
Should I buy an acoustic classical or dreadnaught guitar?
I have been learning guitar on my moms old acoustic classical guitar (3 steel 3 nylon strings). I'm going to ask for my own for Christmas this year but i don't know wether i should get a classical one since thats all i know or switch to a dreadnaught? Ive herd they are easier to play because the neck is smaller (my hands are small and my fingers aren't that flexible! lol) I like to play many different types of music but mostly pop (lady gaga, justin bieber, train) and some country. If that makes a difference...
So should i switch to a dreadnaught? I'm thinking i want to.. but i would love some more input!

Quite simple really: unless you plan to play classical guitar music don't buy a classical guitar. Sure your mom's worked fine for learning the basics (the notes and chords are the same regardless of whether you play a classical, steel string acoustic, or electric guitar). Now that you know the basics though and don't plan on playing classical music, you really should get a steel string acoustic guitar that would be more suited to the pop and country styles you like. Don't necessarily get a dreadnought (a pretty large bodied guitar). You might be happier with a concert or auditorium style acoustic guitar body that will be smaller and narrower. Go to a store and try some out and decide what you like. If you're on a tight budget the Takamine Jasmine S34C NEX is a nice smaller bodied guitar for around $129. Any guitar that cheap though will have a laminate top and won't sound really full and responsive. It's best to spend at least $200 and get an acoustic guitar with a solid wood top. I really like the Yamaha FG700S at $199, but if you want a smaller body they make a nice Yamaha FS720S for around $275ish that is a smaller body style. Depending what you want to spend there are all sorts of good options going up from there. Some of the better brands are Yamaha, Takamine, and Seagull in the under $500 range. Epiphones can be pretty decent too but they don't particularly cater to the small bodied guitarists. Oh, just remembered Luna as well. They're actually pretty decent and stylish guitars.
