Van halen help plz?

well folk's i just got the tab book for best of both worlds by van halen with the accurate tab's and such 30 bucks @_@ it was worth it if i want to play the song's right and ill get to the point i'm using a line 6 spider jam 75 watt amp and a new guitar cable connection to not using any pedal's just the amp and guitar and for now I'm stuck with the fender squire which has horrible pick ups and that's until i can buy either a x-plorer Gibson or a esp either one but the book said use tape echo delay with flange at low speed's with lot's of distortion and 1/4 tuned down which i think is stander tuning but i think I'm wrong and i got the intro to ain't talking about love song but dunno any recommendation's on how i can work the amp and guitar to get the closist e.v.h sound?plz help
