Regarding Guitar String Gauges For You
One thing that plenty of learner musicians miss when they're starting to learn how to play guitar is discovering the most appropriate guitar string gauges for their personal musical style.
It is okay, you are not on your own. It took me a long time to decide on the most appropriate guitar string gauges for my own guitar style. Sometimes it can even work to mix guitar string gauges depending on the kind of music you're practicing at any given point. It could also be a bit frightening when folk say things like 'Oh, I use tens most of the time' and you are not sure what they mean.
When you have started to find your personal style, you may very well discover that the strings you use aren't right for the rigours of your strumming. Swapping your current strings for different guitar string gauges can make all the difference here. For example, if you play gentle, considerate music then you're probably going to be O.K with lighter strings, but for harder, heavier music you will need something more tough that will face up to the punishment.
Guitar string gauges are easy to get used to once you've grasped the basic concept. A great idea is to go to your nearest guitar shop and try the kinds of strings that are available.
Ernie Ball is the most popular make of guitar strings, and quite properly so. Look at the combinations of string thickness they sell in their luridly coloured packs. Those numbers are a good indicator as to the strength of the strings that you'll be looking for.
For Myself, as a metal guitarist who usually tunes down to C, I usually use Ernie Ball Brand 'Skinny Top Heavy Bottom' packs of strings. These string packs feature the following guitar string gauges : 10, thirteen, seventeen, 42 and 52 and are glorious for harder playing, with better sustain and a good deal more command over individual notes when downtuned.
That is the basic idea. Seek out what works best for your own playing style, and you'll be stunned at just how much you feel as though your guitar playing has improved. When you have the best guitar string gauges on your guitars, you can practice much more fluidly and comfortably while learning to play guitar.
