Flatwound Bass
What flatwound bass strings sound like Paul McCartney's bass?
I would like to have my squier jazz bass to sound like Paul McCartney's hofner bass. I heard that he used flatwounds that gave him that classic sound. What are some brands of flatwounds that will give me that sound? My squier jazz bass has a 34" scale.
probably any of them; flatwound strings have a kind of dull tone, so any set of flatwounds will take you closer to that tone than any roundwounds you are playing now.
Experiment with your amp settings too.
finally, the most important aspect of tone is YOUR technique. If you've never taken lessons, do so. A good teacher will show you many aspects of proper technique that will allow you to produce a good tone.
