Glass Guitar Slide

What is the difference between a glass guitar slide or a metal one?

Does it effect the sound or is it just the quality of the slide?

There is a definite difference sound. You'll notice a much warmer sound when you use a glass slide as opposed to a metal slide which has a sharper, brassier tone. I typically see glass slides used more, especially in blues bands, though I've seen a couple Delta blues players using metal slides to get a much dirtier, gritty sound. Ceramic slides are also available, giving an even warmer, softer sound than glass. I use glass, but that's just my preference.
