Guitar Toggle Switch
What is the difference between slector switches and toggle switches on a guitar?
I have been recently in a heated debate about the difference between selector switches and toggle switches on a guitar.
When I was taught how to repair guitars though numbers of books and from Guitar Center, and Musicians Friend they always told me the difference is that...
Selector Switches - Increase or decrease the dB out put of a guitar, to get a different sound. Typically it is a type of effect that requires a 9 Volt battery to keep it working which is stored inside the body of the guitar.
Toggle switch - Which is a switch which lets you toggle between 2 or more pick ups which is built into the guitar.
What is your out look in this. I have owned guitars with just the "Toggle Switch" and the "Toggle & Selector Switch"
Any suggestions, or comments or more in detail answers.
I am getting tire of musicians on here calling me a more on for this and saying I don't know $hit.
I've always heard that if a guitar has 2 pickups (Les Paul, SG, you get the point), it's a toggle switch. If it has 3 pickups (Stratocaster, some Ibanez, so on and so forth), then it's a Selector switch. My point being, Toggle has 3 way, Selector has 5 way. Don't quote me on that, you're probably right. It is interesting that they call it a "toggle and selector switch". Never heard of that before, just one or the other.
