This Question Is About Building A Homemade Instrument...?
Dose Anyone Have Any Suggestions (or Know A Website) On How To Put A Replacement Tuning Machine Knob On Top Of A Zither Pin? Okay Like Let's Say You Buy One Of Those Replacement Knobs For Replacing A Real Guitar Tuning Machine Knob And Just Use The Knob To Glue On Top (With Gorilla Glue Or Something Else I Don't Know that's why I'm asking to find out) On A Zither Pin Do You Think That Would Work Or Something Else? For An Homemade Zither That I Am Building And All I Was Trying To See If This Would Be Easier To Work Out Better The A Tuning Key?!? Help Me Out PLEASE!
Or Also Would Drilling A Small Hole On Top Of A Zither Pin And Gluing And Screwing In A Small Size Eye Screw Work Or Not?
I Don't Mean The Volume Of Tone Control Knobs I Mean The Tuning Machine Buttons!
You can cut a slot in the top of the zither using a dremel with a cutting disc and hammer a small washer in it. I've done that.
Someone i know drills a hole in a hardwood tuning knob he has created. The hole is the size of the top of the zither pin. He then uses a dremel to widen the base of the hole because the zither pin is tapered. then he just glues it on.
One thing to consider when doing this is that zither pins are a bit tough to turn, and the tuning key makes that easy. Putting a small knob on it makes turning the pin more difficult which makes accurate tuning more difficult.
Also, zither pins can be put very close together because they don't have knobs. If you add knobs to them, you'll have to leave enough room between them to allow them to be turned.
P.S. some clock keys will work as tuning keys if you're looking for something cheap and smaller.
