Why are instruments more expensive in Australia?
A friend of mine lives in Perth, W.A. Australia and he tells me the price of an Epiphone Dot is $879 over there when it is $400 here in the states, then when I checked I found every single type of instrument (guitar, amps, pedals, basses etc.) are all so much more expensive, why is this?
Also he was wondering if there was any internet shops that ship worldwide so he could find cheaper alternatives?

Australia is an island. Most every instrument is very delicate, and would require specialised shipping and insurance.
It may be that your Ozzie friend can order from somewhere else - but when you factor in the shipping and the insurance, it will probably be just as expensive
