Phase Shifter
Phase shifter circuit with variable resistor?
I have a phase shifter circuit which is fed by a sine wave (1 Khz at 2v pk to pk):

and i was wondering what the value of R1 would be at 90 degrees?
A simple RC will only get you close to 90º shift, and that is when, in this case, R is very large.
the math is:
Xc = 1/(2πfC)
Xc = 160k
Phase angle θ = arctan (R/Xc)
θ = arctan (20/16) = 51º
Even if you increased R to 1M
θ = arctan (100/16) = 81º
that is the phase shift at the + input of the opamp, call it Vs. The feedback is a bit strange. R2 will have the difference between the input and the shifted signal, V2 = Vi–Vs.
R3 will have the same voltage across it, as the same current flows in it, V3 = Vi–Vs
Vo = Vi – (Vi–Vs) – (Vi–Vs) = – Vi – 2Vs
Which seems to say that you will get somewhat less shift than a simple RC would get you. But this is just a quick check, could be wrong.
