Pickup Bridge
what guitar hardware should i use?
I am building my first custom guitar and am not sure what pickups, bridge etc to use, i don't have a very high budget so cheap but high quality suggestions would be best thanks
I don't know what type you are building (Fender, Gibson etc.) but look into Bill Lawrence Wilde p/u's at http://www.billlawrence.com for some exceptional p/u's at low costs. He can cover both single coil and humbucking. I installed an L500-L in the bridge, a L500-R in the neck and a L200S in the middle of my Ibanez S470 and let me tell you, that guitar can sing. The one downside is if they don't have them in stock, they are a small family shop, it may take 4-6 weeks to get them but are worth the wait. Another mfr to look into is http://www.highorderpickups.com. Jeff produces some fine p/u's albeit all humbucking for a reasonable cost. Another to look into is http://www.rockfieldpickups.com, Todd's swc's sound great and all run about the 50.00 mark.They come stock in Michael Kelly guitars. I believe musicians friend sells them. A good place to check on what others think of pickup sounds is http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Electric+Guitar+Pickups. As far as bridges go I don't know what you are building but I wouldn't go cheap. Build the best guitar you can even if it takes a little longer. You may find a scrapped guitar with the parts you need, just look around. One more thing, look at http://www.ronkirn.com/shop.htm and click books. He has some great tips on building a guitar.
