Solid Shaft
Shaft shear stress max & min and their locations. Help!?
The 60mm diameter solid shaft is subjected to the distributed and concentrated loads (explained). determine the abs min & max shear stress and their locations from the fixed left end.

A 1.4m shaft fixed from left end has a clockwise distributed torque from left end to .8m at 2kN.m/m. At .8m there is a counter clockwise torque of 600N.m. At 1.4 there is a clockwise torque of 400N.m
Answer in back of book= abs min of zero @ x= .7m
Abs max of 33MPa @ x= zero (which is not valid be
cause of St. Venant's principle)
I tried breaking the free body diagrams up at the load changes to find the stresses through the two sections, but then am totally stuck how to find the max and mins
I'm not going to work it out, but this is strictly a superposition problem. Calculate the stress as a function of length from the distributed torque. Then, calculate the stress as a function of length from the intermediate concentrated torque and then, finally, solve for the stress as a function of length from the end torque.
The max shear stress will be at the wall attachment.
