Joe Lally Talks Fugazi's Legacy... (The Daily Swarm)

> Only a year passed between the release of Joe Lally’s first solo album,
_There to Here_ (2006), and his second, _Nothing Is Underrated_ (2007).
>
> The former Fugazi bassist hasn’t exactly been resting on his laurels since
then. The Maryland native took some time to adjust to his new digs in Italy
with his wife and child before tackling his latest opus, _Why Should I Get
Used to It?_ Lally, 47, had to acclimate himself to his new environs and
relearn some of the things that clicked so back in Washington, D.C., where he
maintained a healthy creative connection to Ian MacKaye—the Fugazi front man
who in 1980 founded indie label Dischord Records to promulgate his output with
Minor Threat.

> Lally’s third full-length again puts his Fugazian bass grooves front and
center. Only now Joe’s crafty low-end lines are decorated with blistering
leads, chopping chords, and sporadic six-string mayhem from Sicilian guitarist
Elisa Abela, and karate percussion courtesy Emanuel Tomasi. Lally happened on
both after searching for players who could work with him out of his new
headquarters, and the chemistry their trio on record is nothing short of
