Tone Acoustic
I need some guitar pick ups woth a good clear tone, acoustic-like quality?
I got a new guitar, but I need to improve the pick ups, relationg to the question, does anyone have any suggestions?
If you want acoustic like quality clean tones from an electric guitar, the best option is to install or buy a guitar with a Fishman equipped piezo bridge like on my Parker. It can be blended with the magnetic humbuckers or played alone and gives a very clean acoustic like sound. I use mine in church every Sunday. From a magnetic pickup, I'd recommend some passive Seymour Duncan pickups and a good acoustic effects pedal like the one Boss makes or a Fishman acoustic simulator (if you have $300 to spend on one). You basically want to look for a pickup with bright, clean tones. You can go to the Seymour Duncan site (or Dimarzio and others) and hear samples of various pickups and read about them. You might also want to get the humbuckers installed with a coil tap so you can get brighter single-coil tone from them (like on a Fender strat). But for acoustic like sound a piezo equipped bridge is a great way to go.
I say a Gibson Les Paul in the Guitar Center catalog that has a piezo bridge for about $3000. Didn't get a chance to play one yet, but it's an intriguing guitar. I only paid $420 on Ebay for my Parker though and it's been perfect for me and what I play.
