This weekend, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes home a brilliant
native son, guitarist Jason Vieux. Vieux, who grew up in the Depew/Lancaster
area, is now the head of guitar studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
He was also recently invited to establish a guitar program at the Curtis
Institute. He is, in other words, top-string in the classical guitar world.
Vieux, who appeared recently in the prestigious Ramsi P. Tick Memorial Concert
Series, will be the soloist with the BPO in the Guitar Concerto inDby Antonio
Vivaldi, and also the elegant “Fantasy for a Gentleman” by Joaquin Rodrigo.
His performances form the centerpiece of a concert called “Baroque Masters.”
Conducting will be Piotr Gajewski, founder, artistic director and conductor of
the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Washington, D. C. Gajewski will also
conduct the Overture to “Samson” and Suite No. 2 from the “Water Music” of
George Frederick Handel; and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3.
The concert takes place at 8 p. m. Saturday and 2:30 p. m. Sunday in Kleinhans
